WHAT IS SPIRITUAL FORMATION?

Spiritual formation is the Holy Spirit’s work of building in us the mind of Christ. What Eugene Peterson calls “a long obedience in the same direction”… What Dallas Willard calls “the Spirit-driven process of forming the inner world of the human self in such a way that it becomes like the inner being of Christ himself”… What John Mark Comer calls a lifelong, iterative, nonlinear, daily act… What many have referred to as apprenticing with Jesus Christ as he becomes their rabbi. This was the joy of the ancient churchmen and women and desert fathers and mothers and those long gone who practiced the faith we now follow. But, we have become a busy people haven’t we? Let’s go on a journey together… following the way of Christ.
